Search Engine Optimization (SEO) continues to evolve as time passes.
Search engine optimization (SEO), as you know, is the process of becoming "noticed" by the search engines in order to attract targeted traffic to your site. Some view SEO as the process of having the search engines choose your site for page 1 - (landing on page one or page one ranking) whenever somebody searches for something you're selling.
Choosing appropriate “keywords” would be the first step in optimizing your website. Choosing appropriate “keywords” involves tying what you are selling to the most common words used when people search for what you are selling. The next step would be to optimize your website with the chosen “keywords”. Do remember “keywords” include “long tail keywords” which are keywords with more than three words – such as “how to get out of debt”.
Optimizing your web-site involves editing your website content to include "keywords"; editing HTML and related coding for keyword inclusion and removing any barriers that otherwise might restrict the search engines "indexing activities"( also known as “crawling” your site by the search engines to determine what it’s about)..
More recently, increasing the number of backlinks is another SEO activity.
SEO techniques are now broadly classified as white hat techniques (ones that search engines recommend) and black hat techniques (not approved by search engines. I mention this as an FYI.
Having said all of that, we can begin with choosing “keywords”.
I have found that the keywords SFI uses in the banner ads - found under marketing aids are really good keywords:
Attracting affiliates: “work from home”, “home based businesses” or “get out of debt”
TripleClicks: “Bargains”, “world’s largest on-line garage sale”; "Deals galore"
Many affiliates use more than one website when they sell more than one type of products and the products are quite different. If you are thinking about starting a new website, the best place for your keyword is in the domain name itself. Google takes exact keyword match as a very important factor for page ranking. If you are able to name your website with a high ranking keyword, you can almost be guaranteed the number one spot on page one of any search engine.
Google has a "keyword planner" that can tell you which keywords are ranked high. In addition, there are software programs that also rank keywords.
Lastly, if optimizing your website is too much work, you may want to consider one of the many vendors at TripleClicks that can certainly provide you with an SFI SEO website.
Although the above information only touches on the main points of SEO, I hope it has helped.
