Since SFI has been around for many years, is the playing field fair for someone who have just started in SFI like me?

That is why E365 Challenge is available. You can compete with all the other affiliates who joined the same day you did. THAT is a level playing field.
Not all of the older SFI members got active, or successfully so, right from the gate, so not all members are miles ahead of those of us who are newer. Even so, when you look at the Power Rank Leaderboard, check out the "All Affiliates" and "Country" tabs as well as your class. You can see what CAN be done if you put forth the effort.
Don't be discouraged because someone has many more VPs than you do. In your class, it helps to see how you stand with the rest of the group, lets you know how much harder you need to apply yourself. Make a2a friends with some of the older members, ask them questions. Many ways to gain tips on how to build your team, gain VPs, etc.
Good luck to you and all of us in becoming the best we can be at what we choose to do...

What are the personal characteristics and skills you need to become successful with SFI?

The every day personal characteristics we are all blessed with will be a good start:):)!
A pleasant, outgoing manner; courtesy; and some skill with a computer. 'Techno-geek' (no insult intended to those who are!!:D) skill level is not required. (Thank goodness!)
Patience - with computers, people, training, yourself most of all - is definitely a major plus.
Knowledge - learn all you can about the ins and outs of how SFI operates/functions. It will be hard for you to answer the questions of others - or know where to find the answers - if you do not know SFI.
SFI affiliates come in all sizes, ages, nationalities, and skill levels. In other words, we are all regular people. Just be yourself.
Be persistent in coming to SFI daily, in learning all there is to know, in recruiting PSAs and PRMs, ECAs, etc. Work on it every day, at least a little, and know that results will NOT come overnight. Your success has everything to do with how much effort you put into your business.
These are some of the personal characteristics/skills that will help you succeed.
Best wishes to you...

What's the best way to gain the attention of Second Home CSAs and get them active again?

Communication!!! Be sure to email or e-card them as soon as you can, welcoming them to your team.
Introduce yourself, make sure to give them your contact info, let them know you are willing and able to help them.
After that, it's anybody's guess as to whether or not they will be active!:) CSAs are no more guaranteed than PSAs to be active. Just be sure to stay in routine contact with them, and cross your fingers, say your prayers!!:))...
SFI represents multiple income earning opportunities. Should I focus on just one, some, or ALL?

My recommendation would be to try as many as appeal to you, and settle on the ones that make you the most comfortable, for starters.
You might like all of them, or only a couple. Work on the ones you like the most, as far as you know, see how you do. If you don't get the results you want, or don't care for that choice after a reasonable length of time, try another.
SFI has much to offer, so you have room to experiment a little. Learn about all of them, try before throwing an opportunity away. That way, you can honestly say, been there, done that, made a fortune/lost a lot. At least, it will be an informed decision because you DID try something new and different.
Good luck with whichever you try :)...

What is the best way to convince my PSAs that they should set up a Standing Order?

The best way to convince anyone to do anything is to have already done it yourself!
When you explain that a standing order (SO) will gain them at least 1500 VPs, and maintain their EA (executive affiliate, which has its own benefits) status with no further effort, that should be a good incentive to them.
Also, they will be halfway to becoming a Bronze Team Leader, and without having to worry about making their EA status monthly, they will be better able to concentrate on getting their daily VPs, and the extras for liking/following TC on Facebook and Twitter, acquiring PSAs, etc.
Help them to understand that being at least a Bronze TL will open the door to the sharing of the Executive Pool, which will improve their income levels.
Point out that 1500 VPs will get them to EA in their first month. Concentrate on that, then the SO will automatically do it for them next month, and they can finish their big VP items to become Bronze that month. That will also give them time to get good training in so they understand the need for P/CSAs, and how that will increase their income.
Best wishes to you and your team...

Which is the best way to receive your SFI commissions (Payoneer, PayPal, check, etc.)?

I am not sure there IS a "best" way. I think the choice will be determined by the individual's need and/or preference.
Personally, I chose to have commissions directly deposited into my bank. That way I have no worries about weather, accidents, any other interruptions possibly causing a check to get lost, destroyed or misplaced. And I don't have to do anything to get it there.
Payoneer, PayPal, and checks incur fees of one kind or another. That was another reason I chose direct deposit. Some people think PayPal is the only way to go. Others think putting their commission onto the Payoneer card works best for them.
Check things out a little re: receiving commissions, make the choice that works best for YOU.:)
Best wishes to you...

You will need to explore the web, locate sites that advertise to specific groups. Make a list of them.
Then go visit those sites, get ideas, then find out pricing information. Once you have located a few places that suit you, set your ads, and do not forget the keycode so you can track which places work best for you.
Best wishes to you:))...

First, go to your Sponsor. Try a little give and take asking questions, getting answers. If you are not satisfied, go to your Co-Sponsor, do same again.
While you are trying out your upline, be reading the LaunchPad lessons, be doubly sure to rate at least 10 answers DAILY at askSC (one of the red tabs), there is much to be learned that way.
And the Forum (check out the questions/comments listed on Alerts page) is an absolutely great way to get information. The responses may answer a question, clarify something, or just encourage. Whatever you find by reading the responses to all that is posted under Forum on Alerts page will be educational in some way.
And don't forget a2a friends. Pick some friends, ask some questions. If they know, they will tell you, or tell you where to find the answer.
Above all, READ and FOLLOW all the instructions and guidance in SFI. Trust me, you couldn't find a better company to join, they will nearly take you by the hand and lead you by way of all the free training they have available! :)
Have patience, read a lot, enjoy the business...

Once you have laid out your goals for SFI/TripleClicks, figure out your plan for attaining those goals. Keep them realistic, you don't want to put them out of your reach.
First couple months, do a lot of reading, learning, applying what you have been learning. Then begin your advertising, recruiting.
Play games, bid auctions, do To-do list activities, clear red tabs. Set up your standing order for at least 1500-2000SVPs.
Qualify monthly for EA2, then BTL. Continue to upgrade your goals and plans to attain them. Recruit PSA, CSA, PRMs, expand your team monthly, teach them all you have learned, help them to duplicate.
Follow this plan monthly, shooting higher each time you upgrade/refine your goals/plans, soon you will be Platinum Team Leader!!
Best wishes for your success...

What's the secret for easily qualifying for the rank of Team Leader each month?

Affiliate since: 10/04/2013, Power Rank: 99999999
There isn't a secret, Sir, there's steady, DAILY activity to accomplish your goal of Team Leader monthly.
Best start, if at all possible, is a standing order (SO) of at least 1500 VPs (125 TCredits for $36+USD = 1500 VPs).
Then go to Affiliate page, clear all the red tabs by doing the tasks contained therein.
Check your VP Ledger frequently to make sure you have done ALL the items listed, many VPs are listed.
Join TripleClicks, buy from there the things you ordinarily would elsewhere, and join Wave3. You will get some free TCredits and MRPs, but mainly, you will gain ADVERTISING! That is the most important benefit of Wave3.
For $22, can also add 1 S-Builder Co-op unit to your SO, 280 VP.
It is not hard to do, takes a little money to make it happen faster (SO, advertising),
primarily it takes time.
Be sure to study LaunchPad lessons, and the items in the black bar just above the red tabs.
Good luck to you...
