Before you can invite your affiliates into training session, you need to plan ahead. I’m going to answer your question on how to get your affiliates to come to your training session after discussing the preparation.
It takes time to plan a good training session. However, you and your affiliates will benefit from this preparation.
As you plan, you visualize each step of the training session. This helps you ensure that you've thought about everything that you need to say, and that you present information in a logical order. You'll also be able to prepare for points that affiliates might find difficult to understand.
After your session, you can use your plan to work out what went well – and what didn't – so that you can adapt it for future lessons.
First address this question: How to plan for your training session?
1. First you need to specify what you want for your affiliates to learn and determine how you will measure this.
Consider the following questions:
- What are the most important concepts or skills that affiliates need to understand by the end of the session?
- Why are these concepts and skills important?
- How will you know that they have understood these correctly?
2. Choose your topics
List your topics ranging from SFI BASICS, LAUNCHPAD, Compensation Plan, Benefits Chart, etc. You’ll need to explain related concepts to reach your learning objectives.
3. Organize your material
You have established from the second step a general idea of what you need to cover, draft a lesson outline. List all of the points that you need to cover, in the order in which you'll cover them.
4. Choose your presentation techniques
How are you going to teach the material to your affiliates effectively? You might need to make us of different presentation approaches to keep your affiliates engaged and to appeal to their different styles of learning. You can choose from the following methods:
- Lectures
- Demonstrations
- Discussions
- Case studies, etc.
5. Evaluation
Now, think about when you'll check that your affiliates have understood key points. Build in learning checks and question-and-answer sessions.
Also, consider how you will evaluate the session. You may want to create a simple on- or off-line questionnaire that will help you tell if the session has been successful.
6. Your Timing is crucial
Finally, think about the timing of your session. Some concepts or skills will take more time to master than others, so identify these up front, and allow your affiliates extra time to absorb or practice the material.
Make note on the time that you will allocate for each concept or section on your training plan, and make sure that you've allowed plenty of time to focus on the core concepts – if you don't have enough time, you'll need to run additional sessions, or narrow your learning objectives and reduce the number of topics that you plan to cover.
