How can I use a PSA's Affiliate Profile to help him or her get off to a good start and become successful in SFI?

I would send my welcome greeting with some general instructions on how to proceed to my new PSAs, giving them a few days to find out about their profile and how best to complete it.
At least 3 days after joining, and no more than a week, would be long enough that they should have profile complete. Then is time for you to go check out what they have posted. At the very least, you will see their main reason for joining SFI, and mayhaps a more complete explanation towards the bottom of the things they would like to be able to have in their lives eventually. You will also see how much experience they do/do not have with advertising, recruiting, etc.
Giving them time to get acclimated to SFI and complete their profiles will better help you "figure them out", and find the clues to how you can best help them become successful here.
And, above all, don't forget to show them by example the best ways to go forward:)
Best wishes to you and your growing team!!:))...

How do I get new, anxious-to-earn-NOW affiliates to understand that it takes time to develop a successful business?

Help them to get their Fast Tracker Badge, plus attendant VPs, and earn those total 1500 for the first month. Then explain to them the need to slow down, only do dailies for balance of month, save some of the easy VPs for next month. This is first part of your action plan for NOW affiliates.
Now is the hard part. It is important to make these new, anxious eager beavers understand the necessity - requirement - to go through all the learning steps (Basics, LaunchPad, "Training" tab, etc.) from SFI so they will learn how the system works.
They need to learn about sponsoring, mentoring, advertising - all the skills they will need to lead a team. Help teach them about the awesome compensation they can earn, and to understand that it takes time to acquire active affiliates, help them learn what your new affiliate has learned.
Show them testimonials about the quality of SFI program, and point out the start dates of many of our most successful TLs. TLs who are STILL here, creating successful teams, making residual income.
All these things will help make your antsy new affiliates realize there is too much to learn and do to build their business for it to happen in the next month or two!! A good example to give them, actually, would be WalMart -- I remember when there were only a few stores around Arkansas, now it is a WorldWide business. That is the kind of business we, and our downlines, can create!! But we won't do it overnight, either!!
Best of luck:))...

Should I or shouldn't I participate in the SFI PPA program?

There is no harm in trying out the program, as long as you remember that any PSAs you may recruit will NOT become part of your downline.
PPA activities help to recruit new PSAs for the pool from which PSAs come for auctions and awards, etc.
Broadening your own knowledge base and experience is never a bad thing. At least you can answer your downline's future questions from a point of hands-on knowledge:)
Wish you much success!!:))...
If you're new in SFI and new to marketing, etc., how can you help a new PSA who needs guidance?

It will help if you read, understand and retain information very quickly!!:)) You will need to learn today what you would like to teach your affiliate tomorrow!!
Also, guide them - with specific instructions or links - to the locations of the information they need to grow within SFI. Stress always the fact that all they need to learn is contained within the pages of SFI website.
Do your own learning as well, so you can answer/guide (mentor) them when they have questions for you!!:))...

Is it wise to offer non-SFI related incentives to my CSAs and PSAs? For example, create a standing order and get a free DVD?

I can see the wisdom to offering bonuses to your moving PSAs, not sure about CSAs (they DO have sponsors of their own).
I would suggest these be mostly one-time offers, or have a specific life-span available, this would help to spur your PSAs to attain them.
Bonuses are always helpful to gain results. First, though, check with Support to if any incentives you give can be obtained anywhere, or only through SFI/TC. Remember you can also give TCredits, but only a maximum of 10/PSA/lifetime. You can transfer some of your PSAs to your movers as long as the transferee has acquired at least 600VPs within last 90 days.
There are many ways to reward your movers, take the time to find all the ways. Try FAQs at Support for more ideas.
Best wishes to you!!:))...

How can you determine what TripleClicks product(s) a person might be interested in?

The simplest way is just to talk with them and ask.:)
Choose the most comfortable medium for you - phone, email, face to face - engage them in conversation. Lead off by describing some cool product you have discovered that is reasonably priced, very effective, good for ...whatever..., then ask for their opinion, and would they be interested in same?
Or ask them what product they favor for ...whatever..., where do they get it, what do they pay for it. Then tell them you can find a comparable product for them at your store, TripleClicks, describe it, ask them if they would be interested.
Some things are pretty commonly used by most people, try buying yourself a few things, try them out, then you can give an even better sales pitch:))
I do hope this helps some:))...

How do you prevent people from preying on your downline and convincing them to join other programs?

There is not any way to prevent unscrupulous affiliates from trying to steal your downline members. You can, however, notify Support of such activity, they will be dealt with by SFI since such behavior is strictly forbidden.
I say there is no way to prevent people from trying to take your downline. There IS a way to ensure they do not succeed!:)
Be the very best Sponsor/Co-Sponsor you can be!! Study all the SFI training, learn it well. Study/learn all the tabs across the black bar on home page. Know where to find answers to questions, and how to direct your downline to the info for themselves. I recommend you go find where the info is to answer their question, then tell them the directions to the answer. They will learn more if they have to do at least a little of the work to help themselves. If you do not steer them into helping themselves, you will do all the learning, your affiliates will be somewhat crippled, and non-productive.
If you teach your downline well, they will become successful, and much less likely to allow some thief to steal them away from a wildly successful company and Sponsor.
That's how you prevent people from stealing your downline!!:))

Tell them it is both the store wherein you buy things for home/personal use as well as for SFI business AND it is where you go to play games and bid auctions!:)
You can list the products - or types of products - you buy for home/personal use, with mini reviews of them. Include ECA information as well. Things you buy or sell to others earns your Sales VP.
In Eager Zebra games is where you use your brain in a more relaxing way, having fun as well. And in the playing, you also score Action VPs, MRPs, and sometimes win TCredits.
In auctions, 10 bids gets you a spin on the wheel at Bid & Build PSAs. Most spins will get you 10% of a PSA, I have also won 20 & 40% in one spin. You can spin each time you accumulate one, or save them up and do several at a time, your choice. Of course, you may also win the auction!! Each auction bid gets you 1 AVP.
Best wishes to your success:))...

Where are the best places to post advertising flyers?

The best places to post flyers is ANY PLACE YOU CAN PIN OR TAPE ONE UP!!
Check EVERYWHERE around town: grocery stores, hardwares, breakrooms at some places who don't normally have public announcement boards. Try libraries, hospitals, colleges - places where the students gather, eat, dorm buildings. Convenience stores.
Your imagination is your only limit. If you are not sure about a particular place, go ahead and ask. You might be surprised at the successful results you can achieve by NOT being afraid to ask.
Also consider places like American Legion Posts, VFWs, Eagles Clubs (also for military vets), Moose Club. (Or whatever equivalents other countries have for their military veterans.) And Bingo clubs.
See... like I said, you are only limited by your own imagination...
Best of luck!

I've been in SFI for one year now with no success. What should I do now?

If you have been in SFI for a year with no success, the question is... Why?? After six months you should have begun to question your methods and motivations...
Now would be the time to go back to school:)) Start with Start video, move to Basics, back to LaunchPad. There is no speed pressure on you now, you can take your time, pay close attention to what you read. Take notes. Bookmark things.
Then go to online internet income course. The new, updated version has begun, lessons #1 & 2 are available. Study these lessons well. The old version is still available via archives.
Refresh your training, and maybe your attitude, bring a fresher, different perspective back to your business.
Many do say the second time around is better:)...
